Massé makes an extended stop at the Metropolitan Room January 23 to 27. Dubbed “the thinking man’s chanteuse” for her literate and witty blend of jazz-infused tunes from around the globe, she has long been recognized as one of the foremost song interpreters working today. Her latest Metropolitan Room outing takes audiences on an extraordinary trip through some of the finest songs of the twentieth century with a few detours into uncharted territory which could hold anything from a Bach cello suite to a classic French chanson.
Her inimitable style has been greatly influenced by world travels which began in her earliest childhood. “Because of my father’s work, my family moved frequently, and we lived in some wonderful places including France and Belgium. Then, touring the Transfer, I got to experience even more exotic locales, and all of this reinforced my love of travel and enthusiasm for music from every spot on the globe. Every place I’ve gone has had its own musical culture, and each one has had a definite effect on me.” That effect manifests as an utterly unique ability to blend seemingly disparate elements into a harmonious whole, combining elements of jazz, classical, pop, accapella singing, and world music to unforgettable effect.
The Metropolitan Room engagement runs Wednesday, January 23rd through Saturday, the 26th at 7:30 PM, with an additional show on Sunday January 27th at 7 PM. There is a $25 cover and a two-drink minimum. Reservations are strongly encouraged and may be obtained by calling 212/206-0440. |
