Jen Chapin & Rosetta Trio/ The Chapin Sisters at Joe's Pub

Venue:Joe's Pub
Performer:Jen Chapin & Rosetta Trio/ The Chapin Sisters
Start Time:Thursday, Jul 3, 7:00 pm
Price:$15
Description:Jen Chapin’s music is urban folk — story songs that search for community and shared meaning, powered by the funk, soul and improvisation of the city. Critics have hailed her work on her albums Linger (2004) and Ready (2006) as “brilliant.. soulfully poetic” (NPR), “thoughtful.. worth-savoring” (People), “addictive” (Boston Globe), “smart, observant, lyrically deft, politically aware and emotionally intuitive” (Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel). JazzTimes has called her “a first-rate storyteller” while Relix regards her as “one of the freshest voices singing today." She has been featured on “Late Nite with Conan O’Brien,” honored by the USA Songwriting Competition, appeared on stage with Bruce Springsteen, and opened up for Bruce Hornsby and the Neville Brothers.

Her new album, Light of Mine is 11 songs from the past 35 years that explore the notions of power and fear. The band is the critically-acclaimed Rosetta Trio, featuring double bassist Stephan Crump and guitarists Jamie Fox and Liberty Ellman. At her July 3rd show, Jen Chapin & Rosetta Trio will perform selections from Light of Mine and other original tunes that explore the place this country has been and where we are going. She is excited to share the bill with her cousins, the talented Chapin Sisters.

The Chapin Sisters, Abigail Chapin, Lily Chapin and Jessica Craven, are three actual sisters who live and play music in Los Angeles.  Upon hearing the first notes of one of their shows or recordings, it becomes obvious that the Chapins have the sort of tight, celestial harmony that only sisters can achieve. The Chapin Sisters' lilting voices, lush arrangements and lovely melodies are wedded to dark lyrical content. Their words are sometimes cheeky, sometime utterly forlorn. Their EP of demos recorded in friends' basements and garages has been a CDBaby top seller, and the Lake Bottom LP , their full- length debut was released by Plain Recordings in March of 2008.
